I am introducing to you a new guest writer here at CK! She’s one of my closest friends whom I grew up with. Recently, she was able to watch the Big Bang Alive Tour here in Manila and she’s super generous to share to us her very own experience. As a true blue VIP, let’s all enjoy swirlbeau‘s first post. Hopefully, this wont be her last 🙂 — leila
When my friend from Couch Kimchi heard that I watched the concert, the first thing she asked me was “How was it?” a lot of my friends who are Kpop fans asked the same question and all I can ever say at that time was “OMG It was so awesome!”
So in gratitude to my favorite Kpop Group (BIGBANG FOREVER) and also to share the experience with my fellow VIPs out there, I will write about the awesomeness of that night.
October 24, 2012 is a day I will never forget. Remember how people always say that there are a lot of things that can happen in just one day? Well that day turned out to be one of those days. Me and my friend Macky agreed to meet up early that afternoon because we heard that they are giving away free Big Bang T-shirts but first I had to meet up with another friend at Fleur de Lys in Tomas Morato to finish some work stuff. As I was getting up to leave, a black van parked in front of us. Lo and behold, you wouldn’t guess who got out of the car…it was Dara herself. I was shocked and blank for a while, everything happened so fast. All I ever said after about a minute of shock was “OMG IT’S DARA!!!!” Of course just like a normal Kpop star, she’s escorted by some people, but not too many. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture with her; all I ever got was a picture with her driver who told me about their Tagaytay trip the night before the concert.
I went straight to Mall Of Asia (MOA) Arena after picking up Macky; the excitement just kept on building up. Fellow VIPs are all over the place, it’s cute because most of the fans were in Kpop fashion. We went in the arena after meeting up with some friends and maybe because we are such fan girls, our photos were taken by the Samsung crew and given free Bigbang laser bracelets. Whoohoo.
We were seated near the stage where the sound crew is located. So the lights were switched off and screaming fans are all over. I cannot write about the order of the songs they sang in the concert nor to write in detail what happened but I will share with you the highlights of that night for as much as I can remember.
The Big Bang AVP started, laser lights were everywhere and the boys were on stage in a galactic tube thingamabob (I don’t know how to call it, forgive me). Sounds began to play and Big Bang started singing “Alive” and then followed by “Tonight.” Everyone went hysterical; my friend Dee shed some tears at that moment. The moment was amazing because that’s the very first time we ever really laid our eyes on them, Manila waited for them for a very long time. They were so near, I couldn’t believe my own eyes and they sound just the same live. No lip sync and their energy were too high.
G-dragon is flawless; he looks just the way he looks on TV, only better. He is the epitome of COOL. Actually all of them looked perfect in person. I just couldn’t take my eyes off them. Most of the time I had to stop filming the moment because they come so near and I just stare. TOP‘s sexiness is a total stunner, there’s something with the way he walks and stares, with the way he sings, everything! Since we are blessed to be on the side of the stage, we sometimes see G-dragon and Taeyang laughing at TOP because he kept on making fun of the dance steps. Taeyang is probably the person who kept making everyone scream since most of the time he takes off his shirt and dances like a hardcore party boy. He dances so well and never got tired of it. There’s not a hint of exhaustion in him. Daesung is super adorable in person. He’s too adorable that you want to just grab him from the stage and hug him and keep him forever. He looks at you in the eye and flashes that famous smile. Seungri is the one that surprised us the most. We never expected he is THAT cute in person. Kind of like the boy next-door type. I remember that he was the first one to come near us.
As G-dragon and Top went backstage to prepare for their Knock Out number, the first things the other boys said to the crowd were (Taeyang) “Philippines, it’s time for Big Bang now!” and then followed by Seungri who said “How you feelin’ tonight, Manila? I love this place! So, welcome to the 2012 Big Bang Alive Tour in Manila Baby!” then Daesung and Taeyang started singing to “Manila Baby!” (Though it’s not a song really, they just came up with that…I can’t explain it but please refer to the videos.) Seungri then said, “This is so incredible, I love this country! Manila is so hot!” and Daesung and Taeyang kept saying “I’m freakin’ freakin’ excited!” and compliments the women by saying that Manila ladies are so hot. After that Seungri, Daesung and Taeyang taught the crowd the dance steps of “Fantastic Baby.”
GD and TOP took over the stage and performed “Knock out”. I got too excited that moment because the performance was indeed a total knock out. They live up to the title “Korea’s most wanted.” Right after that awesome number, GD then said to the crowd “When I say swag, you say check. Swag, (crowd) check, swag (crowd) check!” and began singing “High High.”
We were already going crazy at that moment, my heels broke, I had to take them off and change to sneakers in the middle of the concert. Sometime also during the early part of the concert, we noticed that there’s a scratch on the left side of G-dragon’s head. We were worried about it that time and found out after (when we got home and went online) that he had a small accident after one number when he was on his way to the backstage. Poor GD but the show must go on.
Seungri performed “Strong baby” and “What can I do” and in the middle of his singing he said, “Manila, I love you!” He came out of the stage with a laser gun, flashing the green laser light to everyone in the Arena. Taeyang also took over the stage with an impressive dance number and sang “ONLY LOOK AT ME” and “WEDDING DRESS.” He tore off his shirt in the middle of his dance, which made the crowd grow wilder. Then Daesung also had his solo part when he sang “WINGS“, though unlike in other countries, Daesung didn’t fly but it’s okay (his perfect voice that never misses a note is so incredible that you no longer care if he doesn’t put on some fake wings and fly). He ended his number with “I love you, Philippines”.
The boys sang “HOW GEE“, “GARA GARA GO“, “BAD BOY” (2 times), “FANTASTIC BABY” (2 times), “LIES“, “FEELING“, “CAFE“, “BLUE“, snippet and beat box of “CRAYON + ONE OF A KIND“, “MONSTER“, etc. Actually they sang a lot of songs (I’m not really sure about the exact number but roughly around 20+ or 30+). It’s record breaking because it was their first time to sing 5 songs during the encore. They usually sing just 3 songs during this time.
One of the highlights that night was when they sang “Haru Haru” because everyone in the arena was singing. I could say that this moment looked like it really touched their hearts because obviously, they didn’t expect for a Filipino (Tagalog) & English speaking country to know their songs very well. That time GD let the crowd sing and I remember that moment, Daesung held his hand near to his heart, in his chest, while pointing his mic to the crowd. The rest of the boys’ faces looked so happy too. Then Seungri said after the song “Manila, you have such a beautiful voice…Thank you for coming today. Please don’t forget tonight, I promise you we will come back again because I LOVE THIS PLACE, I LOVE THIS COUNTRY, MANILA BABY!” Then Taeyang second the motion by saying “I LOVE THIS COUNTRY, MANILA BABY!” Well, though we lack in fan chants, this only proves that we really are a karaoke-sing-along loving country!
Then GD said to the crowd that this is their first time in the Philippines and that the Philippine crowd is the best. He also added “All the banners, the posters, photos, I’ve seen them all!” I kept on screaming and shouting (as if it is my last day on earth) after hearing him say this. The rest of the boys noticed that Top is not saying anything to the fans; he was so quiet during this time. The mic was passed on to Top and the first thing he said was “Yo“, then crowd went wild with just one word from him. I can see that Taeyang and Daesung were making fun of him during this time but Top continued to talk to the crowd in Korean. I’m not very good with Korean but I did understand a few words of gratitude thanking the fans and then finally added, “We’ll try to come back very soon.” So we got 2 promises right there, VIPs!! Then finally, Daesung spoke to the crowd too, thanking Manila and said, “I will do my very best too.”
After all the heart-warming speeches, GD said that it’s time to say goodbye, followed by the song “LIES.” By this time I was already feeling sad, I don’t want the night to end.
All of a sudden, the boys were back on stage and Seungri said “Manila, Sigaw!”
Now this time, the whole arena went screaming and shouting because of too much excitement. This night is not about to end yet.
They came back for the Encore singing “Last Farewell“. That’s when the real party started. If you’ve seen the Encore Video of Samsung from Seungri’s phone, it was filmed during this time. The boys kept on throwing stuff to the audience like shirts and towels. The crowd was crazy; the boys were all over the place, dancing, singing and giving love to Manila VIPs. This is when GD and Seungri threw their Big Bang jackets to the crowd. Not to sound bias, but this is the first time I’ve seen Top dance like no one’s watching (wearing his pink shiny Ribbon Headband). Daesung kept on coming near the crowd and charming everyone with his cute smile. Taeyang was all over the place, it’s as if he didn’t perform in Taiwan a few nights ago. The night ended with a blast and even though I want more, all I can ever shout to them that time was “Thank You!” They really gave us a wonderful night (or should I say Party?) to remember.
Big Bang Alive Tour Manila was absolutely awesome! It’s definitely one of the happiest days of my life. All the months of anticipation, the ridiculously expensive tickets, everything was worth it! Big Bang really knew what fan service is all about; you will just feel the love in all of the precious moments they are with their fans. Up until now I still wonder how they were able to give the same amount of awesomeness and love to every country and every concert they go to, knowing that they follow a tight schedule. I love them even more after the concert. I know about their humble beginnings and hard work and I’m just happy seeing how far they’ve come. Deep in my heart I know that Big Bang loves VIPs around the world just the same. So thank you boys for choosing Manila as one of your destinations in your Alive tour. Thank you YG Entertainment and Samsung for making Big Bang Alive tour Manila possible.
For now, let’s just wait for their comeback and continue supporting BIG BANG (especially at the upcoming MAMA AWARDS!) I hope that next time Big Bang comes to Manila, we will all share the same awesome VIP experience.
