Last Cinderella Episode 6 Recap: You’re Just Like My Mother

lol. So I love Rintaro’s mom, especially when she called her “Kin.” lol. Anyway, it doesn’t sound like the siblings are blood-related. Phew! But would she take her stepfather’s name? But since Hiroto’s name changed based on custody, perhaps it’s not uncommon.

***

Sakura wakes up to someone knocking at her door. Who can’t wait till later in the day? It’s Rintaro. His mom has set up a marriage meeting for him and he wants to talk to Sakura about it. After some persuasion, she lets him in and he shows her the lady’s photo. He’s absolutely not interested and as they talk, Sakura suddenly notices that her toenails are long and starts clipping them right there. lol. Girl, have some manners.

She wonders why he doesn’t want to go out with the girl – is he gay? Rintaro almost has a heart attack. No? Then does he suffer from Nohei’s problem? Rintaro tells her to stop talking like an idiot. He’s just not into it and somehow during the discussion with his mom, he mentioned he had a girlfriend so could she please pose as her?

Sakura immediately remembers that Hiroto isn’t comfortable with their relationship and refuses. He begs her, bringing up all his past favors (I personally hate guilt tripping but I’ll let it pass since it’s Rintaro. lol), and after looking at his pleading face, she agrees.

They end the conversation by bickering about coffee. He wants some but she has none so he decides to go back to his place and when she tries to follow, he tells her to at least try to look presentable before leaving her place. But since he literally lives next door, she sees no reason to. How about brushing your teeth, though?

It’s time for the other guy to knock at the other girl’s door. Hiroto interrupts supersane Chiyoko who’s spending her morning with photos of Rinatro on her projector. She turns it off and lets him in explaining that she’s depressed because she’s been dumped. Girl, don’t you need to have been dating first?

They lie on her bed and he asks her why she likes Rintaro so much. Back in middle school, she experienced a growth spurt and was teased a lot and had no friends. He was the only one who cheered her up with his jokes and told her she looked cute when she smiled. Hiroto grunts at this and she tells him that he’s at least better than someone who does hit-and-runs. Hiroto seems to take it to heart so she takes it back and they start tickling each other. If this is supposed to convince me of their platonic sibling relationship, it’s not working.

Miki goes job hunting, spurred by a need to pay off the mortgage and her mother’s omnipresence. She fails at her first interview due to a lack of job experience and low qualifications.

Rintaro shows up at Sakura’s with a new wardrobe for the date. His mom runs a boutique so Sakura’s black suit won’t cut it. She is particularly pleased with the shoes because she’s always wanted a pair like it. Apparently, since childhood, she’s had a Cinderella fantasy, even to the point of making fake glass slippers and hurting herself. Rintaro isn’t surprised that she’s always been dumb.

He leaves her with an educational video on table manners (lol) and when he’s gone, Sakura tries on her high heels and of course, she can’t walk in them.

Miki gets rejected for every job she applies to and at dinner, when she complains to Nohei, he tells her she was naive to even think she could find a job with no experience. And can she give him seconds? She heaps his plate then walks out.

The next morning, while Shima is getting her hair done at Sakura’s salon, they receive a sad text from her. So Shima comes up with the brilliant plan to cheer her up at a host club.

It’s Miki’s and Sakura’s first time and they feel uncomfortable. Two hosts are immediately assigned to the pair and then a group of them make an elaborate toast when the champagne is brought to the table. They all share the drink and Sakura is confused as to why she’s only getting one glass of champagne when they bought the bottle. lol. Very practical woman.

Shima goes to the restroom and on the way back, one of the hosts welcomes her back after a while and asks if they can meet for the “after party.” She must be quite good in the sack because these guys always want seconds, thirds, fourths… she thinks back to what Nohei said about not having meaningless sex and agrees to the rendezvous.

Back at the table, Sakura is obsessed with the strange, unfair champagne toast and doesn’t notice Miki trying to catch her attention. Then another host shows up and sits next to Miki. He notices she’s uncomfortable and attempts to relax her.  He gives her a mini quiz, asking her to choose from a list, the vegetable that best describes her. She picks pumpkin and he reads out what it represents: uncertainty from her future stresses her and while she faces difficulty and wants to quit, once she finds something she’s confident in, there will be great changes. It hits home and she starts to cry. Everyone around her is immediately concerned and she runs out.

She leaves behind a job application which the host, Masaomi, finds.

In a different part of town, Hiroto walks into Ken’s bar and Rintaro is there as always. It’s time for the men to have a chat. Rintaro asks him about his name change. He explains that it was changed after his parents divorced and he moved over to his mother’s side. However, when he moved back to his father’s side, he thought it would be too confusing to change it again. Then Rintaro asks him another question – what’s his relationship to Chiyoko? He says she’s his sister by marriage (stepsister). Cool. So why is he hiding this from Sakura? He explains that he never felt a need to disclose it since he didn’t know that Chiyoko went to their salon. Rintaro pretends to accept the explanation.

Miki returns home late, depressed and smelling like a club so her bitch-in-law scolds her about it. This old woman needs to be sent packing.

Sakura shows up at Ken’s place and tells them about going to the host club. She and Hiroto separate themselves and act cute. Rintaro looks at them, troubled, then leaves. For someone who’s so not in love with Sakura, he sure gets bothered by her affairs.

Shima is at a hotel with her host boy trying to have sex but she’s not feeling it and stops it.

After thoroughly washing their bodies, Hiroto and Sakura try to have sex but before he even sticks it in, she starts to scream that it hurts. lol. Bro, this girl can’t even kiss you, what made you think you’d successfully have sex? But I have to say that when I first watched this scene, I chuckled but later in the day, when I was walking home, I thought back to it and burst out laughing. Because imagine being Hiroto and being on top of a woman watching her scream in pain when you’re not even doing anything. LMAO. I think he might need to give Momo a call.

Anyway, it turns out the pain came from her tooth and Sakura visits a dentist the next day.

Chiyoko is having a meal with her parents when Hiroto walks in. They ask him to join them and he agrees. Things are a little awkward so Chiyoko mentions that her brother won the BMX competiton. His father isn’t impressed and wonders when he’ll grow up and join the company and Hiroto shocks them by asking for some time to think about it.

It’s time for the fake girlfriend to meet the mother and I love how after the makeover, the woman always has to walk down a flight of stairs. And just like in She’s All That, Rintaro is shocked by how beautiful she is after she washes her hair and wears nice clothes.

She introduces herself to Rintaro’s mother and the older woman immediately connects her with “Kin.” lol. As they say, blood is thicker than water.

Sakura has trouble walking in her shoes and Rintaro just drags her. His mother notices a run in her stockings and gives her a spare. They sit down to eat and Sakura is a complete mess. She keeps staining her clothes with drink and food because the anesthesia from the dentist hasn’t worn off. Rintaro constantly cleans her up like she’s a baby. lol

Lol. It was obvious that she would disgrace herself but I’m glad they at least gave her a plausible reason. Despite the novocaine, she manages to eat the fish right to the bone. Something tells me that if they weren’t in public, she would have chewed those bones.

While Sakura struggles to open one of her bowls, Rintaro’s mother brings up marriage which he promptly says hasn’t been discussed. Then Sakura drops the bowl and Rintaro has to rush over to help her with it. You really can’t take this woman out in public. As they bicker over it, Rintaro’s mom chuckles.

After dinner is karaoke, says Rintaro’s mom. The fake couple didn’t expect this but they go along with it, anyway. As they stand up to leave, Sakura quickly grabs on to Rintaro because her legs have gone numb. Rintaro’s mom can’t hold it in any longer and bursts out laughing.

His mom hasn’t laughed this much in so long and to both their surprise, she really likes Sakura. Back in the days, she was just like her so she tells her to take her time changing (or maturing). This woman is damn near 40 so how much more time does she need? She tells her to take her time with the marriage but she would like to see her grandchild’s face. And they should also work at her company (apparently, that’s what she wants Rintaro to do).

The siblings are out for a bite and Chiyoko asks Hiroto if he’s really serious about Sakura since he’s not really into older women. Or is he the type to look for his dead mother in the woman he dates? Then he asks her for a big favor – can she please never mention their diabolical plan? She gets all Chokrazy because he’s in love with Sakura too? WHY OH WHY? Her glass falls to the floor and Hiroto sticks around to pick up the pieces.

She runs out and bumps into Rintaro’s mom. Rintaro is holding Sakura who can’t walk in the heels and they immediately break apart when they see her. I don’t know why, though. Rintaro turns and sees Hiroto looking at them and it’s on, guys! The love triangle has officially begun.

As Rintaro’s mom sings karaoke, the Bickering Couple discuss the Chiyoko non-issue. Sakura hopes she didn’t misunderstand and Rintaro says he’ll take care of it. There’s nothing to take care of, guys. Although I bet Sakura doesn’t want her telling the salon folks that she and Rintaro are dating.

It’s Sakura’s turn to sing but instead of just picking up the mic and belting out a tune, she decides to confess the truth. She tells Rintaro’s mom that they aren’t dating and pleads with her to be patient till they find their life partners. I think it’s cute how she tells her the truth but also tries to tell her to be easy on her son and not pressure him to find a wife.

This only impresses the mom who declares that she likes Sakura even more. Apparently, she already knew that they weren’t a couple because she’s not his type. Rintaro dates the graceful type who’s opposite of his mom. Oddly enough, the mother is very classy and graceful but she’s probably comparing Sakura with her old self. So my interpretation is that Rintaro has been running from his fate but he can only run so far. He calls her a traitor. lol.  Sakura picks a song from a band Rintaro’s mother is a fan of. Okay Writer, we get it – they are twins.

Miki is walking about, failing at finding a job when Masaomi, the host, shows up. He convinces her to have a quick drink with him. She ends up pouring her troubles out to him and he has a suggestion for her – why doesn’t she work for him? See, he’s into stock trading but can’t do it while he’s at work so he’d like to pay her to do it for him. This sounds like a scam if I’ve ever heard one. You know, she’ll see him double his money then she’ll decide to invest her life savings and boom, he runs off with it.

Later in the evening, Hiroto and Rintaro run into each other outside his building. Rintaro asks him why he didn’t come out of the restaurant earlier in the day. What is he hiding from Sakura? Hiroto tells him that if he would just date Chiyoko, everything would be settled. Huh? He explains the situation and Rintaro goes Chokrazy (it must be rubbing off). But it’s warranted this time. He grabs him by the collar and tells him never to let Sakura know and just break things off. Hiroto pushes him off and reminds him that he doesn’t take orders from him. Also, who is Sakura to Rintaro? He hesitates for a moment and says she’s his coworker. Hiroto scoffs, saying that he cares a bit too much for a coworker. He leaves him saying that if he wants to protect Sakura, he should be with Chiyoko.

Hiroto arrives at Sakura’s place but she’s distracted, looking at Rintaro’s shoes. Eventually, the tension builds and she just has to confess something to him at the moment he wants to confess his too. She goes first and tells him about her fake date with Rintaro. She’s sorry because she knows how he doesn’t like their friendship. Hiroto is okay with it and tells her that he has something to confess – he’s been lying to her all along.

***

I don’t know if he will tell the whole truth. I think he’ll just tell her that he lied about them having sex on their first night but we’ll find out soon enough.

Prediction time, in like episode 10, Rintaro will leave “Happy Go Lucky” to work at his mother’s place.

Why does Sakura act like she was raised by wolves? However, if they decide to pull a Rintaro/Sakura, I think she will start acting differently around him i.e. if she sticks her butt in his face it might be done differently. lol. They might pull a Cher in Clueless.

I still think there’s something funny going on between those siblings. I still expect some tension to explode between them in a later episode.

And while I think Hiroto has genuine feelings for Sakura, I still think there’s a part of him that’s with her for Chiyoko’s sake. And him telling Rintaro to commit to Stalker is for both their sakes – it’ll get Chiyoko what she wants and will keep him away from Sakura. And how funny would it be if Rintaro starts dating Chiyoko to “protect” Sakura? lol

Either Miki (almost?)gets scammed or it will be a happy story of her becoming a millionaire from stocks. I believe those two actors (Miki and the host) previously played mother and son in Tumbling. LOL. I do think Miki’s story is finally getting interesting.

There was no Shima/Nohei and I can’t say that I missed them.

Episode 7 looks great and I can’t wait. Till then!

If I think of marriage as a merging of families, I think Sakura will be happier in Rintaro’s family. Hiroto’s family would just stress her out and make her feel unloved. As for Miki, wow, I hadn’t even thought he was scamming her. I thought he loved her. Aaargh, what a romantic I am. Thanks for the recap.

You might be right. When he saw the job application, he looked concerned so I thought he was going to help her. Then he mentioned stocks and that just sent a red flag. I want her to dump her stupid husband and have fun with a younger guy so I hope it’s the latter case and she ends up becoming a whiz in the stock market and becomes rich.

What exactly is Chiyoko’s relationship with Hiroto though? I watched this episode with chinese subs and it said “stepmother’s daughter” (stepsister), but the english subs say “sister in law”? Kinda think the former is more likely since she’s living alone with Hiroto’s dad and stepmom…

I think the “Sister in law” is supposed to be “Sister by law.” So really, stepsister and the Chinese subs translation.

    Thanks for the recap!

I hope you are right and THIS confession is just about their alleged first night. It would be too soon for him to tell her the truth about being set up by his step-sis.

And does H really think that R is going to fall for C? Is that possible in anyone’s reality other than C’s?

Gosh, I also hope Miki doesn’t lose everything to this scammer. I felt so bad when she chose pumpkin as her veggie. What is sadder than that?

The thought did not enter of Miki being scammed by Masaomi. He seemed so sincerely concerned. Oh, noooosss.

After watching this episode, I have no idea how this will end. Rintaro is in love with Sakura and it finally hit him. Yay!

    …. quick Q.

If you are THAT much into someone, would a sudden toothache stop you from a preplanned and excited night of…. being with a hot guy 15yrs your junior? Cos it sure as hell wouldnt stop me O_O

And Im with you on there being something v weird about the Chiyoko n Hiroto relationship. Step bro n sis, who had an accident while doing stuff the family didnt approve of when kids?? The reason he was sent away to stay with his mums family? Young love twisted and spurned by the joined families?

    Again, I loved this episode!!

I laughed so much during “Meet the Tachibanas” part, karaoke included :).
I am glad Rintaro faced Hiroto about his lies, it’s good that Hiroto now knows that Rintaro is keeping an eye (or should I say his reproachful stare! :P) on him…
When Hiroto said that Rintaro should date Chiyoko,I was like WHAT?!?! ..In that moment I wanted Hiroto to just go and tell Sakura everything…I understand that he doesn’t want her to be hurt, but how can you not think that something is not quite right when you hear something like that?!?
“And how funny would it be if Rintaro starts dating Chiyoko to “protect” Sakura?” OMG I can’t even think about it! And if that happens, will Sakura discover all the truth while staying at the altar with Hiroto? now I stop….
About Miki, “Then he mentioned stocks and that just sent a red flag”, same here!

P.S: I knew it!! After this episode I am (again) on Rintaro’s side: he’s just what Sakura needs. Love their chemistry.
P.S 2: ok know it’s clear what Hiroto and Chiyoko have in common…

@Clockwatcher: Thanks a lot for recap!

Love this episode and loving the Tachibanas so much..

Did you see the change of hands towards the end of the opening theme song, the first 5 episodes, I believe they were the hands of Hiroto but in this episode, we see they were changed to Rintaro’s hand. I wonder who will be Cinderala’s prince in the end? Btw, how many episodes are there altogether?

Yeah, Hiroto weirded me out when he sided with his sister and told Rintaro to date her. Not good. Even his face was weird when he said that. Him kissing his sister’s back a few episodes ago was very weird as well…even if they’re not blodd-related.

However…I think I didn’t get it all…I don’t see the big deal about Hiroto. Yes, hitting on Sakura just as a part of a plot is a dick move. I agree. But then, Rintaro never expressed romantic interest towards Sakura and Sakura never liked him too so it’s not like Chiyoko was trying to steal him from her for real. Chiyoko is just a bit dumb and immature, she doesn’t see that her stupid games won’t change anything. The only one who’ll be really hurt in the end is her, not Sakura. Seriously, she thinks that she’ll get Rintaro just by threatening him about Sakura? Rintaro ain’t the type that is told what to do. Did Chiyoko tellHiroto to physically hurt Sakura?

At this point, Sakura would be better off alone for the moment. She never seemed lonely, needy not even pressured by her parents to marry. So I didn’t even understand why she decided to find a man all of a sudden…just to avoid facial hair, yeah, but that’s ridiculous, it won’t stop her from having more if she was supposed to have them. I have 2 hair like her on my chin, but I didn’t freak out lol This is nature, we’re not hairless creatures, and she isn’t young anymore anyway. That whole thing about single women becoming men is ridiculous…

So…Rintaro and Sakura kiss each other in the next episode? Not surprised at all. It’s a matter of time before they officially date each other. She already gets along with her “mother-in-law”. I like this woman by the way, she sounds cool.

Clarification: yes, Rintaro and Sakura like each other, that’s obvious for everyone but them, but they weren’t flirting or anything, so Hiroto could have been any man, preferably someone genuinely interested in her from the start.

I’m not feeling any of these 2 men anyway…

2nd clarification: yes, Sakura will get hurt, but you know what I mean, she has Rintaro as a comfort. Rintaro is Chiyoko’s first love so yeah…she putting herself deeper in a hole.

HIya Mello, I saw your other comment about Kimi Wa Petto. I only saw a bit of the drama and in the end since they are together, I figure they are together. lol. But some of the characters in the other dramas I listed even get married.

Anyway, as for this one, the hair thing is so silly, lol, but I guess it’s their silly plot for this romance. When she went to see the doctor, they already told her something about hormone imbalance or whatever so maybe she’ll find another hair soon.

Hiroto needs to get Chiyoko professional help instead of giving in to her crazy whims. He’s her enabler. I think Rintaro would simply drink and brood if Hiroto were just any man. I think now he’s bothered because he thinks Hiroto isn’t genuinely interested in Sakura and is just with her for Chiyoko. That’s why he’s upset.

Sakura will get hurt because she’s completely innocent in this but I wish she would kick Chiyoko’s ass when she finds out. Chiyoko will probably get comforted by Hiroto (after he grows a pair).

Very good point. Indeed, Rintaro was completely OK with Hiroto at first, well after his doubts about him conning her vanished. And yes, Chiyoko needs to see a therapist.

Hi Mello! It’s good to read long comments like yours! :)
But, as for me, I don’t quite agree with you.

1-It’s true that Chiyoko didn’t steal Rintaro to Sakura, but it’s her that dragged Sakura into that situation! And I don’t think that the one that will be more hurt is Chiyo: she doesn’t have any mental balance, and my feeling when I see her trying to get Rintaro attention is the action of a spoiled child who wants a new toy. She’s not in love with Rintaro, that’s what I think. And of course, as it is now, Hiroto is not helping at all.

2- I think the reaction of Sakura after noticing the facial hair at first it could look a bit exaggerated, but actually I think it also could be true: I mean, at some point it can appen to every girl to discover something (don’t know, maybe a facial hair, or white hair, or skin or whatever…) that sounds inside like a bell and wakes you up!

      I am sorry I hope it’s clear :)

Thank you for your reply, I like what you say, it’s clear enough!

“1-It’s true that Chiyoko didn’t steal Rintaro to Sakura, but it’s her that dragged Sakura into that situation! > I disagree but it’s OK :) The more mentally balanced your are, the better you handle stressful and depressing situations. She clearly is not mentally balanced, so she’ll feel the consequences harshly (which means losing Rintaro’s frienship). She’s a bit of a lonely drama queen. Sakura is already 39, she’s not young anymore, no matter how naive she is. She’ll get over it soon with the help of Rintaro in my opinion. Yes, she’ll cry, so do all drama female leads at one point anyway :) Am I too blasé or what? lol I do think that you have a point though, you might be right.

“2- I think the reaction of Sakura after noticing the facial hair at first it could look a bit exaggerated, but actually I think it also could be true: I mean, at some point it can appen to every girl to discover something (don’t know, maybe a facial hair, or white hair, or skin or whatever…) that sounds inside like a bell and wakes you up! ”

    > Yeah, I see what you mean. But Sakura isn’t even serious about choosing carefully a man. She should give it more thought instead of rushing like that. She kinda dated the first one who showed interest. She never stated any preferences about men, I’d like to know what are her standards and what she expects from mariage. I don’t know but I’m not going to wake up tomorrow and say “hey, I don’t want to be a man so I’ll date someone!” Look at Sakrura, she’s being manipulated. It’s not her fault, but she probably could have avoided it.

And like Clockwatcher said, Chiyoko better get her ass kicked by Sakura, and Hiroto needs to become mature now and stop assisting his sister in her stupid games.

:) Good to share different points of view!!

      – “She kinda dated the first one who showed interest [...] I don’t know but I’m not going to wake up tomorrow and say “hey, I don’t want to be a man so I’ll date someone!” I’m actually the same as you, but I have to say that even in real life there are girls who dates in the same way! :)
And about Sakura it’s probably because of that naïveté and independence that to me it doesn’t look that bad.

      – “She never stated any preferences about men, I’d like to know what are her standards and what she expects from mariage. ” Ahh yes, you’re right, I would like to know too!!

      – “And like Clockwatcher said, Chiyoko better get her ass kicked by Sakura, and Hiroto needs to become mature now and stop assisting his sister in her stupid games.” Can’t wait for that!

So, let’s wait for next episode..coming soon!

      ;)

Good points! Yes, she was already independent and enjoyed her single lifestyle so the writers had only one option to make her decide to date men again: making her freak out. And yes, some girls are very spontaneous when they make decisions.
