50th Baeksang Art Awards TV Drama Winners

The awards were held on May 27th at Kyunghee University Hall of Peace. Here’s a video of stars on the red carpet:

The winners have been announced and I think the best part of these things is that you get to see actors in your favorite dramas sit together again. We would have all loved our favorites to win but with what some of these nominations were, we shouldn’t take them too seriously in the first place. Having said that, here are the winners:

Best New Actor

Kim Sung Kyun (Reply 1994)

Baro (God’s Gift  – 14 Days)

Park Seo Joon (Warm Words)

Jung Woo (Reply 1994)

Choi Jin Hyuk (Gu Family Book)

No one needs eyes to have seen this coming.  It was a breakout year for Jung Woo and he was set to win this even if people were left scratching their heads wondering how someone who debuted fourteen years ago could be up for a rookie award. My guess is that they wanted to give him something but already had Best Actor reserved for someone else.

Best New Actress

Kyung Soo Jin (Eun Hee)

Do Hee (Reply 1994)

Baek Jin Hee (Empress Ki)

Son Yeo Eun (Thrice Married Woman)

Han Groo (Warm Words)

Best Actor

Kim Soo Hyun (My Love From The Star)

Yoo Ah In (Secret Love Affair)

Lee Jong Seok (I Hear Your Voice)

Jo Jae Hyun (Jeong Do Jeon)

Joo Won (Good Doctor)

Another no-brainer category. The fall-out wouldn’t have been pretty if someone else won.

Best Actress

Go Ara (Reply 1994)

Kim Ji Soo (Warm Words)

Kim Hye Soo (Queen Of The Office)

Lee Bo Young (I Hear Your Voice)

Jun Ji Hyun (My Love From The Stars)

I expected Jun Ji Hyun to take this but Lee Bo Young did a good job so no issues here.

Best Script

Kim Ji Woo (Shark)

Park Ji Eun (Man From The Stars)

Lee Woo Jung (Reply 1994)

Jung Sung Joo (Secret Love Affair)

Ha Myung Hee (Warm Words)

Best Director

Ki Min Soo (Good Doctor)

Shin Won Ho (Reply 1994)

Ahn Pan Suk (Secret Love Affair)

Jang Tae Yoo (My Love From The Star)

Jo Soo Won (I Hear Your Voice)

Best Drama

Good Doctor (KBS)

I Hear Your Voice (SBS)

Secret Love Affair (JTBC)

My Love From The Star (SBS)

Reply 1994 (tvN)

I’ve got nothing against Good Doctor and I haven’t watched Secret Love Affair but I don’t understand how a drama can win Best Script and Best Directing but not win Best Drama especially as one of the lead actors was also nominated for his acting. Strange.  Or they didn’t want to be accused of awarding their own drama since the show aired on JTBC?

Best OST

Roy Kim – Seoul, This Place (Reply 1994)

Lyn  – My Destiny (My Love From The Star)

Sung Si Kyung – To You (Reply 1994)

Ailee – Tears Stole My Heart (Secret)

Lee Chang Min – Moment (Heirs)

Love is a momeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeent didn’t win and that’s all that matters.

Most Popular Actor

Kim Soo Hyun (he also won this in the movie section).

Most Popular Actress

Park Shin Hye

Fashionista Award (Huh?)

Im Siwan & Kim Hee Ae

InStyle Fashionista Award

Jun Ji Hyun

Daesang (Grand Prize)

Jun Ji Hyun

This explains why she didn’t get Best Actress. She very sweetly thanked Do Manager. How cute.

And there you have it. While Reply 1994 garnered the most nominations, it only won in the New Actor category. You Who Came From The Stars got the most wins while Secret Love Affair came second with awards in prestigious categories.

Only grudge I have is the Heartless City/Cruel City didn’t have any nomination.. Other than that i can’t complain.

    • tara says:

Ikr it’s such a shame :(( , this drama ranks first in my k-drama list *-*

      • specialist says:

mine, too. heartless city is one of the best of 2013… I have not wacthed a drama that is so intense as that drama following…
great lose but the viewers knows the truth 🙂

  • tara says:

I don’t understand how jun ji hyun winning the Daesang award , explains her not winning the best actress ??? What’s the meaning of Daesang ?! One more thing what awards did ” You who came from the stars ” get ? And can i have a full list of the winners , this is just a couple of awards , but there are still more not mentioned here.

“Love is a momeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeent didn’t win and that’s all that matters.” You’re hilarious! Thanks for the laughs this morning. 😉

  • Ivoire says:

Thank you for posting this, and for the link to the exhaustive list of the awards.

    • Ivoire says:

I wonder what the difference would be between “Fashionista Awards” and “InStyle Fashionista Award”…

      • Clockwatcher Clockwatcher says:

LOL. Me too. What’s the difference and why do we even have this category? I would understand if it were costume design but two fashionista awards?

      • jess23 says:

From what I understood, the one JJH got was for her fashion in the drama, so I guess the other two would be for best dressed on that day(?)

        • nekoi says:

The Instyle Fashionista award is supposedly sponsored by ‘InStyle’, the brand just wanted to give out something in their own name; the other award is just a general one, hence 2 different awards.

      • Ivoire says:

Thank you guys for explaining (and Clockwatcher for your questions). Your responses actually made sense.

  • Rushie says:

I love Love Is The Moment and that’s all that matters. I’m sad MLFAS didn’t win.

  • jomo143 says:

I think they had to give Ahn the award for director because the show was almost perfect in execution in every possible category – acting, music, set design, costume design, pacing, atmosphere.
The script was also just about as perfect as any TV drama I have ever seen.
Nothing was left to chance. Every word that came out of every character’s mouth made sense in more than one way. It was funny, sad, romantic, scary, hopeful, wonderful.

I am obviously a fan of the show. I wish everyone could watch it!

    • sally_b says:

@Jomo – “I am obviously a fan of the show. I wish everyone could watch it!”

Secret Love Affair was like… languidly reading an engrossing novel…on a slightly worn chaise lounge in the attic-room…in a sunbeam, with partial shadow.

People who say they won’t watch because of the theme of adultery would be surprised to find that it’s a story of redemption and reclamation of joy.
(plus, most don’t condone war, murder, revenge and such…yet still watch shows where those elements are the centerpiece)

This drama (though perhaps at too slow a pace for some) is actually pretty freakin amamzing. It’s like….INDIE Kdrama.

    • Newbie says:

I just commented this on DB and I’ll write the same here: We’ll see about which drama of 2013/2014 they’ll still talk in the future. My bet is it will not be Good Doctor, the supposedly Best Drama. SLA was epic and revolutionary.

  • my LOVE FROM THE STAR!! says:

I LOVE ” YOU WHO CAME FROM THE STAR.. IT HAS A UNIQUE ENDING WHICH U CAN’T SEE FROM OTHER TV PROGRAMS.. IT IS SAD? YES.. BUT IT HAS UNENDING EMOTION THAT WILL STRIKE DIRECTLY TO YOUR HEART THAT U CAN SAY TO YOURSELF.. “I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE” AND I BET? I DO NOW.. THIS IS THE BEST PROGRAM I SAW.. I AM A KPOP AND KOREAN DRAMA LOVER.. BUT AFTER I SAW THAT PROGRAM.. ALL I CAN SAY.. I WILL SHOW IT TO MY FUTURE HUSBAND AND KIDS.. THAT LIFE IS FULL OF MYSTERY WHEN IT COMES TO LOVE.. 🙂 <3 KAMSAMHANIDA DO MIN JOO OPPA!! CHEON SONG YI! (and to all cast of "YOU WHO CAME FROM THE STARS)
