It is that time of the year again! Can you believe we are celebrating FOUR years of blogging?? *pinches self* We’ve finally reached our goal to have our own domain, but we are not stopping there.
We started with three, now we have FIVE authors contributing to keep Couch Kimchi updated daily. I would like you all to welcome RINCHAN, who’s been writing recaps for us this year. *warmest clap* Our family is growing!
We certainly live our own lives outside the blogosphere, but maintaining a blog is not easy. On the one hand, the CK ladies are passionate. I wouldn’t reach four years alone or imagine celebrating without them. Getting this far with them is truly a blessing!
Our readers—our friends—have made all the difference in our success, and so, this year, we want you all to have the opportunity to get to know us better. Who are the CK ladies? We’ve decided to give each author the opportunity to dish one secret our readers might not know about us or one interesting tidbit we’ve learned from one another since we began working together. So, here it goes!
LEILA: The Lead Cheerleader
Clockwatcher: Leila is a Korean drama writer’s favorite type of audience because she gets lost in the romance. It’s amazing that after seeing so many dramas, she’s still able to find the uniqueness and love in every couple’s journey. I think watching a drama through her eyes is an experience that many of us want to share which is why her readers connect so well with her thoughts. She’s also a very positive person that can pull you out of of the dumps when the writer is torturing you.
Goodange: This blog wouldn’t exist without Leila. She started it and has trusted the rest of us to allow the family to expand. Because she’s the top dog, she’s also our biggest cheerleader, always pumping us up for new projects and especially our anniversaries! She’s no bossy leader though, and while the real world is always calling on her for her skills to help save lives and keep people healthy, she’s able to squeeze in time to write up earnest reviews of dramas, films, and music. I don’t know how she’s able to juggle it all!
Tessieroo: I’ve discovered Leila is the most romantic out of all of us. She gets weepy during sad scenes in dramas and crazy excited (squealing type excited) when kissing finally happens. (LOL, it’s cute.) She’s filled with never-ending optimism when OTPs fight and break up, as if she knows a secret about love that the rest of us don’t. Is it patience?
Rinchan: Leila is a warm person that befits the title “fearless leader.” LOL. She has this great air of positivity that translates well into writing. She is capable of a producing an enthusiasm that allows her to connect well with her reader, and I surmise if you read her recaps, you will fall in love with the drama before even watching it.
CLOCKWATCHER: The Go-To, Female Jon Stewart
Leila: Witty and spicy. She’s my go-to-girl when my insanity is out of control. LOL. I love writing with her because we are so opposite of each other! We can always agree to disagree. Through the years, Clock and I have adjusted and blended to fit. Clock will always have my respect and my love for all that she writes. She makes me laugh out loud and touches my heart to its deepest core. She has the magic to make a not-so-good drama the best one to recap. You will never be bored reading her thoughts.
Goodange: She’s the genius who came up with the name Couch Kimchi, and I can’t imagine this blog being called anything else. If you’ve read her reviews, then you know she’s just as gifted at dubbing drama characters with funny nicknames, but really, Clockwatcher is a talented writer. I’m one of her biggest fans because she doesn’t sugarcoat her observations, which are never boring. You’re always in for a laugh. She’s also web savvy, getting our blog out of technical scrapes lots of times. I don’t always express it, but for a procrastinating scatterbrain like me, I also appreciate that she keeps us/me in line. It’s like having our very own Jon Stewart, Geek Squad, and Eun Young (from Coffee House) rolled into one!
Tessieroo: Working with Clock on several co-recaps, I figured out she has the most delightful, sarcastic sense of humor ever. She’s also very easygoing; she doesn’t stress over much of anything and is awesome with one-liners, making me laugh no matter what the situation is. I now think she purposely tries to make me spit out stuff I’m drinking.
Rinchan: Clock is definitely not one to mince words, but her directness is often cushioned by her wicked sense of humor. Clock is one of those cool people that you could have a beer with and just talk. It doesn’t really matter if you agree with her or not, you’ll have fun.
GOODANGE: The Sleep-Deprived Updater
Leila: She is definitely one reason why our foundation is strong enough to withstand everything. I am confident that with her, this blog can do more than what we are capable of now. Ange, Clock, and I have been together since day one of planning this blog. I trust her and she’s a rare find. She is our resident editor, art director—anything visual-related, she is in charge. The overall look of CK is possible because of her creativity. The blog is simple but she makes the beauty of CK stand out … pretty much like her.
Clockwatcher: This blog would have long since died without Angie. She’s definitely the person who keeps it going and who’s helped it grow so much. She’s modest about her writing, but she’s an enthusiastic, astute drama fan. She also has a wide vocabulary that has sent me to dictionary.com several times.
Tessieroo: Angie is the busiest person on this blog. She’s always available when things go wrong. She finds the most amazing celebrity spreads and is constantly updating. I usually end up happily surprised to see one of my hot, Oppa crushes staring at me from the front page and I wonder how she does it. But I was shocked to learn she doesn’t have a personal Twitter account. *gasp*
Rinchan: She is actually quite humble about her writing abilities, but she is a great editor. She is capable of processing a great breadth of work, and slim it down to something reader friendly while maintaining the meaning. Though she is probably the busiest of us all, it definitely hasn’t affected the quality of her work.
TESSIEROO: The Heavy Lifting Collaborator
Leila: Tess is a force to be reckoned with, especially when combined with Clock. Their tandem is such a delight! I am thankful to have Tess on the couch because of her reliable, fresh inputs and hard work. Her dedication to help and always reach out are something for which I’m grateful. She is a Boice like me and a fangirl at heart. Writing with her is a breeze, and I can’t wait for another drama to recap with her again.
Clockwatcher: Agreeing to work with Tess on co-recaps was one of the best decisions I’ve made as a writer on this blog. She always does the heavy lifting that I often feel guilty because she does all the work so that I can have all the play. I always wonder how she manages to watch so many dramas and write about them too! She’s really fun, dedicated and a pleasure to work with. Plus I love reading her thoughts because she’s very honest and doesn’t hold back her feelings. And she’s funny, too.
Goodange: I can talk forever about how awesome, smart, considerate, kind, honest, friendly, and loyal she is, but I don’t want Tess to get a big head. LOL. Every time she publishes a post, I feel proud and happy that she’s a part of our drama-loving online family. Her extensive contributions clearly resonate with the audience, and her collaborations with Clock and Rinchan are enjoyable and thought-provoking reads. The slew of comments that have been left on her very engaging posts proves that she’s one of the big reasons why our blog has grown.
Rinchan: Tess is a very passionate and caring person. She is the first person I worked with on CK, and I had so much fun with her. She is quite transparent, and she is not afraid to let you know how she feels; her reactions are simply the best. However, despite her outspoken nature, she doesn’t stand on a soap box and tell you how to feel. She is always open to different opinions, even when they are the opposite of the way she feels. This unnie is a gem like every one of the CK ladies.
RINCHAN: The Old Soul
Leila: The newbie on the couch this year, Rinchan is articulate, and she can easily draw you into her thoughts. Her writing is spot on as if you are watching the drama itself. Whether she is writing with Tess or recapping alone, I find her enthusiasm to share her ideas and opinions one of the best reads. I’m excited to collaborate with her and read more of her thoughts.
Clockwatcher: Rinchan is brimming with ideas. She doesn’t hesitate to step up when needed, and I think she has a pretty old soul which makes her very objective. It’s been a joy having her here, and I can’t wait to work with her more in the future. She’s a true K-drama fan who does her best to understand what the writer is trying to convey even if he/she isn’t very good at her job.
Goodange: We’re still at the getting-to-know-you phase, but my respect for Rinchan runs deep. Her writing is intellectual and emotionally intelligent, and I always get the sense that her wealth of profound insights flows easily from her head onto the virtual page. Her brain is swarming with ideas, and so, even though she’s only been with us for less than a year, she’s already making a difference in our family as we forge ahead with new undertakings. When the blog gains more friends, I don’t doubt that part of the reason is because of her contributions.
Tessieroo: Rinchan has the ability to analyze characters in-depth within minutes and is my own personal voice of reason. Her ability to see both sides of almost every issue is a quality I discovered while reading her thoughts during the drama Empress Ki, and the way everyone responded to her calm reasoning left me in awe. I’m so happy she decided to spend some of her time with us!
