It’s the season of adaptations! In addition to the adaptation of mangas-that-became-Japanese-dramas like Liar Game and Naeil’s Cantabile, the hottest cable drama these days is the adaptation of the Misaeng webtoon. OCN joins the club with an adaptation of Dr. Frost. What is it about?
Baek Nam-Bong (Song Chang Ui) is known as Dr. Frost. He became a professor in psychology at early age. He is extremely bright, but he has difficulties sympathizing with others due to an injury to his frontal lobe as a child. During the day, he now works as a counselor at the campus counseling center and at night he works as a bartender.
Baek Nam-Bong then begins to work with a teaching assistant, Yoon Sung-A (Jung Eun Chae) at the counseling center. Yoon Sung-A is enthusiastic with the clients needing counseling. They work together to solve problems who go their for help.
It sounds like a procedural. Very Jdrama-esque. Though OCN and tvN are sister stations (OCN’s Bad Guys is simulcast on tvN), their dramas have far less hype internationally. It’s probably because they focus on more gritty stuff (crime, medical, mystery, thriller) while tvN is all about trendies (romance, comedy, melodramas).
Here are the character posters:
Baek Nam Bong (Song Chang Ui) the psychologist.
Yoon Sung A (Jung Eun Chae) the teaching assistant.
Cheon Sang Won (Choi Jung Woo) the dean of the psychology department
Song Sun (Lee Yoon Ji) is a psychology professor.
Nam Tae Bong (Sung Ji Roo) is a detective.
What’s with the white hair? I wonder if it’ll be explained by a medical condition and be related to the injury he incurred as a child.
It looks like cable is where it’s at these days and better known actors are jumping in on the action. I just hope it’s not taking roles from the lesser known actors who looked to cable for roles they couldn’t otherwise get on the Big 3.
