SBS’s Star-Studded “The Legend of the Blue Sea” Drops First Teaser

The Legend of the Blue Sea is an upcoming SBS drama about a Joseon-era son (Lee Min Ho) of a noble family who looks exactly like a modern-day scammer. The link between them will be the mermaid (Jeon Ji Hyun) released in Joseon era who comes to Seoul in modern day. Why does this seem like a genderbent My Love From The Star?

The cinematography is gorgeous but why am I not too hyped about this? I think because these two actors often star in successful dramas that I like but not love. I mean, my last Lee Min Ho drama was the one that makes me  think “moment” whenever anyone starts to say that love is something. And My Love From The Star was cool but I wasn’t enamored with it. So I expect a similar feeling here. But them again, I’ve learned to keep my expectations low to avoid disappointment.

That aside, the teaser is pretty and promises us an emotional roller coaster. It’s about a mermaid who holds on to her love for centuries which just makes me go “aww.” So I suppose we’ll see a woman who runs into a man identical to her true love and falls in love all over again.

The Legend of the Blue Sea takes over Jealousy Incarnate‘s Wed-Thu time slot starting November 16th.

Eh, I don’t really like the doppelganger/reincarnation part, but I will probably check it out for Jeon Ji Hyun. Not particularly excited for this project as Star didn’t impress me that much back then. Besides, I’m still feeling iffy about Lee Min Ho. The Heirs really ruined him for me.

I feel like we are entering the era of mega dramas now; ones with huge budget, overseas filming, insanely popular Hallyu actors, star writers and directors. It started with Descended from the Sun and now we have this drama and the Goblin drama one after another. Success is almost a guarantee because everybody will tune in if only to be part of the great drama conversation.

By the way, I see that you have My Wife Will Have an Affair on your coming soon list. Now that gets me excited. Wouldn’t mind to see some teasers or pictures on your site.

I’m waiting to see how they handle LMO’s hair when is actually IN the water. It looked pretty good in this teaser – wet but still perfectly coiffed. I want to see it messed up…I mean really messed up. 😉
