“The Legend of the Blue Sea” Ratings Steady; Other Dramas Rise Slightly

While The Legend of the Blue Sea may not be achieving Descendants of the Sun-level ratings, there’s no Korean drama world where upper-teen ratings are bad. I haven’t had a chance to watch this week’s episodes yet but those who have enjoyed it. That’s all that matters. Anyway, its eighth episode stayed steady at 17.4% with no difference from Wednesday night.

It appears to be a tough time slot because both of its competitors have good reviews. Oh My Geum Bi‘s ratings rose 0.2% to 6.0% while Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo rose 0.6% to 5.4%. Both ratings are low but I suppose we can still be glad that they are rising. I always lose the battle against not caring about ratings given that I literally have no control over them but I still feel sad when a drama I like fails commercially. I can’t help but hope that the cast and crew aren’t discouraged.

For me, Blue Sea is just no blockbuster. It’s a nice drama and I’m enjoying it, but it doesn’t elicit any special ‘feelings’. I’m not excited to watch it and I just get around to watching it whenever I have time during the week. It’s not one where I wait anxiously for the new episodes. Actually, Geum Bi has FAR more appeal for me and every week the story becomes even more magnetic. I think a lot of people were put off by the sad synopsis, but this drama is NOT in the least sad….yet. I know we will get there, but it is so much more than that. I just love it. It reminds me of Marriage Contract that way…a drama that also totally changed my view of UEE and ripped my heart out in the most beautiful way!

Me too, although I adore Ji Hyun. This one just isn’t doing a thing for me. 🙁

I love her…she is adorable and an amazing actress with great range. But she and LMH aren’t a match for me, so it’s been a bit rough trying to make myself see them as a couple.

I thought I was in the minority when I felt that JJH and LMH literally have no chemistry at all. I feel they’re together because the script says so. Heck! JJH had more chemistry with JJS, her fellow merman. Since this is a drama that relies on chemistry rather than plot to sell it, it’s no wonder why it has yet to hit the 20% mark, the ratings may stagnate or regress considering that its rival dramas WF and OGB are actually very good and have good word of mouth.
