“Whisper” First Impressions

WOW, what a start! “Whisper” began this week and I am SOOO in. Although it’s nothing much we haven’t seen before in the Rich VS Poor category, it’s the cast and the acting that has me hooked. Lee Sang Yoon stars as the Judge who does no favors for the corrupt, he believes in the law and follows it to the letter. Lee Bo Young stars as the police officer whose father runs afoul of the mysterious TaeBaek Law Firm and especially Choi Il Hwan (Kim Gab Soon) and is framed for a murder he did not commit.

In order to protect himself, Choi Il Hwan will go to any lengths, even framing an innocent man for murder. He’s the kind of rich guy we all hate and hope will end up in jail at the closing – he buys, threatens and sells judges in order to get the verdict he wants. And he wants District Judge Lee Dong Joon (Lee Sang Yoon) to do just that. He also wants him to marry his daughter, Choi Soo Yeon (Park Se Young). UGH, arranged marriage.

I loved that Lee Dong Joon refused, even when his own father told him to go ahead and get married – mostly so he could continue to practice medicine on VIP patients. I love that he refused even when he discovers he is up for review and the “Committee” might not reappoint him as a judge. The head of the Committee is Justice Jang and Judge Lee Dong Joon just sentenced his son-in-law to 15 years for embezzlement. The other members of the “Committee” are just as corrupt. Still Judge Lee Dong Joon believes he will either get reappointed or he will testify as a witness in all their cases.

That’s when the hammer is lowered on his head – the “Committee” has proof that he used his connections to get his mother favorable rates for medications used in her nursing home. *sigh* He’ll be prosecuted in addition to losing the Judgeship and end up in jail. He loses his Judgeship.

In the meantime, Detective Shin Young Joo (Lee Bo Young) tries to find a way to prove her father is innocent, with the help of her fiance’ Park Hyun Soo (Lee Hyun Jin). They end up getting her father’s phone, which will prove he couldn’t have committed the murder. She takes it to Judge Lee Dong Joon, aware that meeting a Judge is wrong but she had no other way. What she doesn’t know is that Dong Joon has made the decision to go along with the corruption…AND her fiance’ won’t help when it comes time to tell the uppers that they found the phone. She is suspended from the Police force. It is then that she finds a newspaper story that Judge Dong Joon is marrying into the TaeBaek family.

She’s shocked when her father is sentenced to 15 years and hatches a plan for revenge. When Dong Joon wakes up the next morning in a hotel room after a drunken night with the boys, she comes out of the bathroom in a bathrobe. Surprise! Now the poor guy not only has to deal with the corruption of Choi Il Hwan and family (soon to be his own) but there’s also this crazy woman who will go to any lengths to free her father. What’s a guy to do? I can’t wait for next week!

Can’t wait. But I will until at least 4 episodes are up. My new rule for dealing with the memory loss induced by watching 15-20 dramas and movies at a time.

I was kinda of disappointed that he decided to sell his soul to the devil. I thought he would have pulled through until the end.

I was so waiting for you to review this drama. I am a big fan of both LSY & LBY. The plot was intriguing. The writer made me hate the lead and yet had hope he will repent by helping Youngjoo. The affair between Jung Il & So Yeon was predictable. However, everyone is a villain with motive. Each & every character including Young Moo. Nicely developed plot. Kudos to the writer.

I’ll wait for your next review. ๐Ÿ˜Žโ˜บ
