“Age of Youth” Season 2 Still Cuts + Premiere Date Announced

In my opinion, Age of Youth was one of the most refreshing dramas of 2016. You went in not expecting much and left with a smile on your face.

I was personally satisfied with how it ended except for Ji Won’s story. While they hinted at a romantic future with her best friend, I wanted that romance to be further explored. So imagine my joy upon hearing there’d be a second season.

Here’s the synopsis from AsianWiki:

Set one year after season 1 of “Age of Youth.” Jin-Myung (Han Ye-Ri) successfully found a job after she returned from China. Ye-Eun (Han Seung-Yeon) took a year off from school due to the aftereffects of her abusive ex-boyfriend. She is now returning to her university. Ji-Won (Park Eun-Bin) has yet to find a boyfriend. Eun-Jae (Ji-Woo) broke up with her first love and she is in emotional pain. The girls have a new housemate Jo Eun (Choi A-Ra) at their sharehouse. She stays in the room previously occupied by Yi-Na (Ryu Hwa-Young).

So everyone but Yi Na still lives at the house. I wondered if Ryu Hwa Young’s controversy would keep her from the series but she’s apparently still appearing albeit in a much smaller capacity. So I guess that’s a yes for the controversy having an effect?

Another change is that Eun Jae has a completely new face! Park Hye Soo has other commitments so the role of Eun Jae will be played by Ji Woo. Soap opera fans are used to major recastings but I still think they are weird, especially for major roles. However, if an actor is unavailable and they don’t want to scrap the character, the producers are left with only once choice. I just hope it won’t be too distracting and we get used to it very quickly.

Plot-wise, I am cool with the one year updates except for Ji Won. What’s up, girl? Do you mean to tell me that you and Sung Min haven’t managed to get it together for a whole year? What the heck is wrong with both of you? On the plus side, this might mean that we actually get to see that relationship develop because the actor will be reprising his role in the sequel. So yay! Thank you Sung Min and Ji Won for being too knuckleheaded to figure yourselves out so we get to see it happen.

I don’t know what these ladies are looking but I just hope it’s not another “ghost.” Take note, Ji Won (can you tell she was my favorite?).

I guess this is the new girl.

Age of Youth 2 premieres on August 25th on JTBC.
