We have to say ADIEU to 2018. But before that, my annual Asian Drama wrap up is here! I’m going to stick with what I did last year. For those who aren’t in the know, I graded the dramas I’ve watched with hearts — ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ as the highest and ❤️ as the lowest.
I am sad to note that I’ve watched less than usual this year. But I’m happy to present these dramas that have touched me, in more ways than one. Share your favourites of the year down the comment section below, coz I know I missed A TON.
My ID is Gangnam Beauty ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This one earns my heart for the year. If I could give it ten, I would.
The story is very simple. A man fell in love with a woman, just as she is. Physical appearance is not everything, when the heart is beautiful. A man who is truly in love will see that. I enjoyed watching every episode, even if the plot is familiar.
Cha Eun Woo is a revelation for me this year. I’m glad to note that My ID is Gangnam Beauty highlighted more than his gorgeous looks. He became more meaningful than an eye candy. Good job, dude!
About Time ❤️❤️
I will do what I love until the very end. – Mika
Expectations vs Reality hit me hard on this one. The premise was good but the execution for me, not so much. Although the chemistry was great! I mean, its Lee Sang Yoon on my screen, he’d make my heart flutter a million times in a second. He also has the ability to stop my time, too. Moreover, when he speaks he makes me believe every word is true. His charms is that powerful!
Amidst the negativity, I love how TIME was clearly the focal point of this drama. Every second counts. The overall idea that when you love someone, you add on to the persons time was interesting. This is the reason I was drawn in the first place. Love has a way of making TIME so valuable. I felt how Do Ha badly wanted Mika in his life, he was willing to sacrifice his own.
Kim Hae Sook as Oh So Nyeo stole my heart on this one! She made me listen to her intently, and cried on the side too. Her words were lovingly spoken, my heart felt warm. The life lessons here is one for the books too.
Let’s Eat 3 ❤️❤️
Yoon Doo Joon remains a special lead man for me. I can’t express how much I love him in Let’s Eat 2. Watching this sequel was easy. However, the chemistry with Baek Jin Hee was a bit jarring. It didn’t work for me. Though the throwback concept was nicely done. I have a soft spot when it comes to reminiscing past events.
But if Korean food is all you want, and you are interested to learn some of its background, give this some time. Seeing Yoon Doo Joon eat to his hearts content never fails to make me a satisfied viewer. Turn up the volume coz there is a major ASMR moments here.
A Love so Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I binged watch this from one Saturday evening around 9 PM until 10 AM the next day. Call me crazy. But at that time, I can’t seem to let it go. I just continued until I realised the sun is already shining brightly at my window. Thank you, Netflix! I am not sponsored.
This deserves a spot among the K-dramas in this list. I always make exemptions, when a drama touches my heart, no matter where it is from, I’ll watch it.
The story is nothing new. It is so familiar, I am surprised I loved every minute of it. It must be the transition, the passing of time, and how it depicted my youth. That Nokia to iPhone transition felt so real! I went through the same. Heh. The nostalgia it brought made me feel good. The love story is icing on the cake.
When you find yourself willing to learn trigonometry, girl grab that guy and don’t let go!
The Third Charm ❤️❤️❤️
Oh dearest Seo Kang Joon. You made this drama extra special.
PD Pyo is among our favourites here at CK. I understand his aesthetics and how he tells his story. I thought The Third Charm will teach me just as it says. But I guess, PD Pyo and the writer has something in mind. The open-ended finale might not be ideal, but some stories just don’t end the way we want it.
What is The Third Charm? I will share more of my thoughts on a Series Review for this show. As a gist, love hurts and Seo Kang Joon’s character showed that journey. He really made this story, his own. I felt how his character tried his best to love, and still choose to love even if he was at the edge of being broken again. That fear was so real! Kang Joon brought a different sensation and emotion about love, it felt good to see him experience it. I felt his chemistry with Esom, too! There were moments that I cried along with them. This is how amazing PD Pyo plays with emotions, you can be easily drawn in with his characters.
This story may not be for everyone, but I dare you to finish it.
Encounter ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ and a 💋
I always include a current drama that I love in this list. After all, it started in 2018.
What I love most about Encounter is simply the way Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo makes me feel when I see them together.
Like what I’ve mentioned with Clock, their chemistry isn’t off-the-charts but it’s the kind that makes me smile, that makes me feel good in the inside. I love that their love story isn’t the kind where I cringe nor complain about sensual tension jumping out of my screen. But instead I feel a very mature, well anchored, honest-to-goodness kind of love that I feel I can most relate to. Sometimes love doesn’t have to scream like crazy, but it can be subtle and beautiful nonetheless.
I close 2018 with a grateful heart! On behalf of the CK ladies, THANK YOU for making this year special. Even with less content, YOU are still here. We feel so blessed.
We welcome 2019 with optimism that we’d have more content and surprises for all of you! As we approach 10 years of blogging, your support and presence means a lot to us.
See you all around 💗
